FOR PARENTS OF GRADE SCHOOL STUDENTS:

Ages 6-7

Ages 6-7 will be on a case-by-case basis. There will be one or possibly two trial lessons and then an evaluation after a week or two of practice to see whether or not the child pays attention during the lesson and practices actively and regularly during the week. At this age, a parent is required to sit in on each lesson and will need to actively participate as a sort of “practice coach” at home. The parent will learn the very basics of piano as well at first, though eventually your son or daughter will be able to practice effectively on their own and without guidance. Another reason that a parent “Practice Coach” is needed is that each student will be given a “Piano Lesson Assignment Sheet” at the end of each lesson, which is a way for them to remember in the following days what to practice and has notes and instructions and concepts from whatever we talked about during the lesson (and that I had time to write down!). At this young age, a parent may be needed to read the assignments to the student at home—and being in the lesson helps immensely with parents understanding what these assignments are.

Ages 8+

Ages 8 and up may or may not require parent participation during lessons and are generally able to read their Piano Lesson Assignment Sheets just fine, though at-home coaching may still be needed to keep them on track. This is generally mostly making sure that they do practice, making sure they practice what they are assigned and in the manner described during the lesson.

Lesson Book

The Lesson Books for ages 6-7 will be the Bastien New Traditions Primer Book A. The Lesson Book for Ages 8 and up will be Bastien New Traditions Book 1A. The Lesson Book for Ages 12 and up is the Bastien Adult All-in-One.

Special Note

Please be aware that the public portion of my house is only the lesson room itself, a bathroom, and I have two chairs on my front porch. If you must bring an extra child to the lessons, then they will need to be especially quiet and respectful of the lesson taking place.

What could possibly be in this TREASURE CHEST?!

The key to this chest is on a ring with over 100 other decoy keys!

Legend has it that only students who practice every day are allowed to look inside and take a piece of the treasure…
